Munnar a hill station in the northern Kerala is indeed breathtakingly beautiful. It’s a haven of peace and tranquility, truly an idyllic tourist destination in God’s own country.
Munnar is at an altitude of 6000 ft in Idukki district of Kerala. This hill station was the favored summer resort of the British people based in that part of the country in the colonial days. Munnar boosts of unending expanse of tea plantations, aroma of spice scented cool air. That’s not all Munnar has all this! It’s the place you would love to visit and stay at. Munnar has lots of places to visit and enjoy, like:
Pothamedu: Munnar has plantations not only tea but also coffee and cardamom. There cannot be a better place to see these plantations than Pothamedu. The rolling hills, the lush mountain and the breathtaking scenery here is ideal for trekking and long mountain walks
Echo Point: Echo point has a natural echo phenomenon and is very famous amongst tourist.
Devikulam: This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral waters and picturesque surroundings is a good picnic spot. The lake is also ideal for trout fishing
Rajamala: The natural habitat of the Niligiri tahr. It has half the world’s population of the fast becoming extinct and rare mountain goat or tahr. The total number of Niligiri Tahrs in Rajamala is estimated to be over 1300
No discussion on Munnar can be complete without the mentoin of the Kurichi or Neelakurinji Flowers turn the hills of Rajamalai blue every 12 years. The next bloom will be in 2018 and then in 2030.
Tea, coffee and spices like cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and pepper are a must buy when visiting Munnar.
